MSI member Emily Roz will be the solo artist of a show titled "Ripe" at the Front Room Gallery in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, from November 7 to December 28. Magnolia fruit pods and seeds are the featured topic of this one-woman show of oil paintings.
Emily, a New York artist, grew up in Chapel Hill, North Carolina, and was fascinated by the Magnolia grandiflora tree near her home. She says, "I spent a lot of time in this tree," and has fond memories of both Southern and saucer magnolias she observed in her childhood. Now an adult, living in New York, she draws on these trees as sources of inspiration for her subject. "Ripe" shows her focus on detail and the effects of "baroque light" to make the paintings as true to life as possible.
Emily was led to the MSI web site as a result of research connected to her paintings of magnolia fruit pods and seeds. She thinks the web site is a fantastic resource and is glad she found us.
If you live in the New York metropolitan area or will be traveling there, Emily would love for you to see "Ripe".
