Day 1 Wednesday, April 9, 2008

Arrive at Amsterdam's Schipol AirportTransfer to Rotterdam and the Hilton Hotel.
Afternoon visit to the Trompenburg Arboretum.
This evening there will be a Welcome Reception followed by dinner.

Day 2 Thursday, April 10, 2008

Morning visit to the Von Gimborn Arboretum and the University of Utrecht Botanic Gardens. Lunch is
included today. This afternoon we will visit a nursery in Boskoop – the acknowledged centre of nurseries in
the Netherlands - before taking a scenic drive through the Dutch countryside back to the hotel.
Evening Board Meeting.
Independent dinner arrangements.

Day 3 Friday, April 11, 2008

Morning drive into Belgium visiting ‘Hemelrijk’ (Essen), the estate of the de Belder family where we will be welcomed by Daniel and Barbara de Belder in the beautifully restored coachhouse.
Drive to ‘Kalmthout’, lunch at the Arboretum followed by a visit of the collections with curator Abraham Rammeloo. Arboretum Kalmthout. Lunch is included.
In the afternoon the Annual Meeting will take place followed by a lecture.
Late afternoon drive to Antwerp and the Plaza Hotel.
Dinner to be taken independently this evening.

Day 4 Saturday, April 12, 2008

Drive to Wespelaar for visits to ‘Herkenrode’ and ‘Arboretum Wespelaar’.
We will have a full day at Wespelaar (North of Brussels) and see four gardens of the Spoelberch
family on the family estate. Arrival at Arboretum Wespelaar to visit the extensive collections, created
over the last 20 years, including many Magnolia but also Acer, Juglandaceae, Quercus, Tilia and
Betula. Box lunch at Herkenrode then visit the collections started on 10 hectares by Philippe de Spoelberch in the 1970’s, including the magnolia trial ground of 1996 with outstanding selections.
Late afternoon walk through XVIII century Parc of Wespelaar created by the Artois family (creators of famous Stella Artois lager) with views of the Temple of Flora, Obelisk, Pyramid, grotto etc.
There will be tea followed by dinner.

Day 5 Sunday, April 13, 2008

This morning Lunch is included before driving to Leende (near Eindhoven, Netherlands) to visit to the garden of the late Wim Rutten. Then we will visit the ‘Arboretum Bokrijk’ in Domein Bokrijk where we will be welcomed by curator and MSI member Jef Van Meulder.
In the late afternoon you will return to Antwerp and the hotel.
Dinner this evening is included at a local restaurant

Day 6 Monday, April 14, 2008
Morning departure to Meise. The ‘Belgian National Botanic Garden’ is located in the village of Miese, north of Brussels.
After the visit you will continue to Amsterdam’s Schipol Airport.
