Join us for the Virtual Annual Meeting 2022 on November 12, 2022

MSI invites you to join us this Saturday, November 12, 2022 for our Annual Meeting.  We will have two great Magnolia experts share their knowledge. (We promise the annual meeting portion of this event, while necessary, will be short).

Our first speaker will be Richard Baines of Scotland. Richard is with the Royal Botanical Garden Edinburgh at Logan and the author of the recently published book ‘Plant Explorer a Plantsman’s Travels in Northern Vietnam’. He will be doing a power point presentation covering the work of Logan in relation to Magnolia conservation in Vietnam and link it to the expanding living Magnolia collection at Logan.

Our second speaker will be Vance Hooper of New Zealand. There is much exciting breeding work with Magnolias in New Zealand. He will be doing a power point on Magnolia breeding in New Zealand touching on Os Blumhardt's breeding work and moving forward with other hybridizers.

Since we span the globe, times will vary from place to place. Below are three start times.

Please make adjustments depending on where you live.

NOVEMBER 12 OR 13, 2022

All members and contacts will receive an email with the meeting link - no registration necessary!

Gap Analysis Published by GCCM

The Global Conservation Gap Analysis of Magnolia has been released.  This publication presents a summary review of the ex situ and in situ conservation status of 336 Magnolia species. Using information from global databases such as BGCI's PlantSearch and a survey of the global botanic garden and conservation community this analysis aims to provide information to organizations working on Magnolia conservation and encourage next steps for collaborative conservation of the world’s Magnolia species. This work was completed in collaboration with Botanic Gardens Conservation International and with support from the USDA Forest Service, the Institute of Museum and Library Services, Fondation Franklinia and Magnolia Society International.

The Cultivar Checklist has been published! Access the article in the journal HortScience here.
